When I was twenty, I worked as a boy's
director for a camp in Canada which dedicated one week
of the summer to blind children. It was there I learned
how little I knew about people of with sight challenges.
My next experience was with Ronda and her mother at the
National Camp for the Blind in Alabama.
What a cute kid, a great mom and a group of people I
will never forget. Rock climbing, water skiing, water
tubing... no matter how challenging the event, the blind
campers were ready for the adventure.
I invented the Gitzo stick camera for this piece,
mounting a small DV camcorder to a monopod, which
allowed me to get all kinds of crazy angles over and
around the action.
