This was my third shoot in India and one
of the most interesting. No sooner had we landed
in Chennai (formerly Madras) we began a four hour drive
North to Nellore in Andre Pradesh.
This was the central organizational spot
for what Maranatha Volunteers International calls their
50 village project.
MVI builds churches and schools with
the support of local labor and volunteers from around
the world. A 50 village project requires the
building of 50 churches and also require generous donor
support.
The payoff for the organization is a
large increase in the interest in Christianity, often
with entire villages choosing Christian ways.
While it seems unconscionable to the secular observer to
push religion on these people, for the local Indian,
many who are of castes not allowed to worship even in a
Hindu temple, the creation of a place to worship is
cause for great joy.
Fascinating place, people and event.
Shot with an HD700a, 1080i HDCam. Love the Indian
Ocean footage. |
